When a professional Boston couple approached Elizabeth Swartz Interiors for a kitchen and bath renovation, they expected a modest upgrade. Little did they know that they would be provided with a complete transformation, expanding their living space and enhancing functionality.

The Kitchen Renovation

According to a 2017 study by Houzz, the kitchen is the most popular room in a home to renovate. Homeowners renovate for various reasons, including poor functionality, outdated features, or simply a desire for a style update. This was certainly the case for our clients.

Elizabeth Swartz Interiors collaborated closely with the couple to understand their needs and how they function in their kitchen. By reconfiguring the layout and redesigning key elements such as cabinetry and island cook-top, we created a spacious and efficient kitchen that perfectly suited their lifestyle.

To bring warmth and personality to the space, we replaced the existing white factory cabinets with custom cherry cabinets that absorbed the natural sunlight, creating a welcoming ambiance inspired by the surrounding nature.

An Inviting Breakfast Nook

Adjacent to the kitchen, the breakfast nook was lacking a visual separation from the kitchen and needed a touch of its own charm.

To fulfill the homeowners' desire for an open yet distinct space, we added a peninsula that not only created a visual division but also provided additional storage and countertop space. This thoughtful design enabled casual entertaining while maintaining a sense of connection.

Master Suite Remodel

The second floor of the colonial home housed a master suite that needed a complete overhaul. The existing layout was inefficient, with wasted space and inadequate storage.

By refreshing the master bedroom with updated colors and custom window treatments, we managed to blend the homeowners' cherished antique furniture with a more modern aesthetic.

To maximize storage and enhance functionality, we re-designed the roofline to incorporate a shed dormer, increasing the square footage in the closet and master bath. The result was an open and airy dressing area that made daily tasks more enjoyable for the homeowners.

Master Bathroom Renovation

The original master bathroom suffered from cramped and poorly functioning rooms, lacking natural light and proper division between different areas.

With the addition of a shed dormer, we devised a new floor plan that relocated the shower and created a custom his-and-hers vanity. This thoughtful design allowed for increased storage and a spacious area for the couple to prepare together.

Exterior Remodel

Not only did we transform the interior of the home, but we also worked closely with the builder to update the exterior. The homeowners desired a modernized facade while preserving the colonial charm.

By replacing dominant dental molding with softer architectural details, installing a new custom entry door and surround, and incorporating a fresh color palette, we successfully brought a contemporary touch to the traditional colonial exterior.

If you're ready to embark on a renovation journey for your outdated kitchen, bath, or entire home, it's time to take the first step. Contact Elizabeth Swartz Interiors today and let us transform your space beyond your imagination.
