The warmth and comfort that a rug brings to a room are unparalleled. It uplifts and transforms a space, giving it a personality and a sense of order. Renowned designer Frederico DiVante once said, "A room without a rug is a naked room." And he couldn't be more right.

Among all the rooms in a house, the bedroom is the one that offers the most comfort and warmth. It's where you retreat to after a long, tiring day at work and where you start each day with a fresh and clear mind. So, it's crucial to create an atmosphere of peace and relaxation when you open that bedroom door.

A rug can add all these elements and more to your bedroom, providing not only comfort but also aesthetics. However, every bedroom is different, with its own unique size and layout. This makes finding the perfect spot for your rug a bit challenging. But that's the exciting part – the versatility!

Wall to Wall Rug: Solving All Your Problems

A wall-to-wall rug can be the answer to all your rug-related problems. This type of rug covers the entire floor area, regardless of the size of your bed or surrounding furniture. Some people even choose to add additional rugs on top to enhance the aesthetics and increase comfort.

Framing the Bed: A Popular Choice

Another popular option is to position the rug in a way that frames the bed. This can vary depending on the size of the bed and surrounding furniture. Generally, the bed is placed centrally against one wall of the bedroom. The rug should run along the sides and length of the bed, with enough space to comfortably land your feet on it.

With this placement, you have the flexibility to experiment with different orientations. You can choose to place the rug horizontally, covering the bottom half of the bed with more floor coverage on the sides. Alternatively, you can position it vertically, covering more of the bed frame with ample space on the sides.

Rug Sizes for King Size Beds: Finding the Right Fit

For standard king-size beds, there are a few rug sizes that work best. While a large king-size bed may take up a significant amount of space, the right-sized rug can make it work.

  • 8ft x 10ft: This rug size is perfect for smaller master bedrooms with limited space. It provides enough room to comfortably walk around the bed without having to step on the cold wooden floor.

  • 9ft x 12ft: If you want to make a statement, a larger rug like this will cover everything and bring all the elements of your bedroom together. It can extend beyond the nightstands and any ottoman or stool you might have at the foot of the bed. Just remember to keep a 6-8 inch gap between the rug and the wall to avoid it looking like a wall-to-wall rug.

Rug Sizes for Queen Size Beds: Achieving Balance

Even though queen-size beds have smaller frames, there are still several rug sizes that work well. The optimal size depends on the room's dimensions and the surrounding furniture. Here are two sizes that we recommend:

  • 6ft x 9ft: This size rug looks classy and proportionate to a queen-size bed. However, it may not allow for nightstands to be placed on the rug. Nevertheless, there is enough walking space with at least 14 inches available on either side of the bed.

  • 8ft x 10ft: With this rug size, you'll have plenty of space around the bed, allowing the design to shine. There will be at least 2 feet of space on both sides, providing comfort underfoot.

Runners: Adding Style and Functionality

Runners are an excellent way to accentuate your bedroom. Regardless of the bed's size, you can place two runners on either side and perhaps one horizontally at the foot of the bed. This ensures that the walking space around the bed frame is covered while still leaving enough floor space visible within the room. Runners also work well when added to wall-to-wall rugs, creating a cozier base.

Choosing Different Shapes: Get Creative

While rectangle-shaped rugs are popular, there are plenty of other shapes to choose from. A circle rug framing the bottom half of the bed can create a unique look. Alternatively, a half-moon shape at the foot of the bed or oblong and arch shapes framing the bed can work wonders.

In fact, there are 15 different shapes to choose from, so you have plenty of options. You can explore them all in real-time using our easy-to-use customization tool.
