A Journey of Transformation
With a wagon full of their beloved dogs, horses, and a collection of eclectic treasures, this artistic couple left Texas and discovered the perfect location in Santa Fe. Perched atop the Galisteo basin, their new home provided the ideal canvas for their artistic vision.
Embracing the Wabi-Sabi Philosophy
Inspired by the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy, which finds beauty in imperfection and celebrates the cycle of life, the couple sought to create a kitchen that would seamlessly blend with their unique found objects and antique treasures.

Collaborating with La Puerta Originals
After stumbling upon La Puerta Originals, the couple was initially hesitant about affordability. However, their curiosity led them to step inside, and they were instantly captivated by the rustic pieces, distressed patinas, and Scott's genuine appreciation for antiques and repurposing efforts.
A Kitchen Like No Other
Working closely with Scott, the couple envisioned a kitchen that was as unique as their home. Rather than traditional standalone cabinetry, they desired rustic wood cabinets seamlessly integrated into plaster walls. The cabinets, built as solid boxes, were carefully inserted into the walls and kitchen island.
Celebrating Imperfections
To reflect the wabi-sabi philosophy, the couple selected weathered fencing from La Puerta Originals' antiques yard for the pantry, cabinet, and drawer fronts. This was complemented by antique planking and woods, creating a harmonious blend of textures.
Thoughtful Details
The kitchen boasts several special features, including wood-paneled appliances, a convenient pull-out pantry cabinet, and an appliance garage with a smooth gliding swing-up door above the sink counter. The design also includes a hidden sponge drawer and a pull-out garbage/recycle drawer among the sink wall cabinets.
A Delightful Transformation
The clients couldn't be happier with their new kitchen. The venting system, ingeniously designed to go under the island, eliminated the need for a traditional stove hood, creating an open and airy space. The white plaster walls beautifully complement the rustic wood cabinets, while the simple yet substantial hardware adds a touch of elegance.
