Are you passionate about interior design? Do you dream of becoming an interior stylist and having a career that combines creativity, travel, and working with amazing brands? Look no further! In this article, I will share with you the five easy steps to kickstart your journey towards becoming an interior stylist, just like me.

Step One: Get Lots Of Work Experience

Building a strong foundation in any career starts with gaining practical experience. After finishing my degree, I did a journalism MA in Leeds, which included a work placement at a fashion magazine. Although my initial tasks were not glamorous, I made sure to make my presence known. Through hard work and determination, I eventually landed my first job at Period Living magazine as their office junior. This opportunity allowed me to assist freelance stylists and get hands-on experience in the industry.

Step Two: Start Networking

Networking is essential in any industry, and interior styling is no exception. I believe in putting yourself out there and speaking to as many people as possible. One breakthrough moment for me was when I approached the style editor of Elle magazine in the office lift and expressed my passion for interiors. This led to my first break in looking after the interior shopping pages. Remember, it's all about showcasing your love for interiors and building connections.

Step Three: Try Your Hand At TV Styling

If you're craving some excitement and variety in your career, consider exploring TV styling. After working for magazines for years, I got an opportunity to work as an interior stylist for a TV company in Brighton. Through networking and making friends along the way, I ended up styling for popular TV shows like This Morning and working with renowned personalities like Amanda Lamb and George Clarke. To get started in TV styling, reach out to local TV production companies and inquire about work experience opportunities.

Step Four: Start An Interiors Blog

Blogging has become a powerful platform for sharing knowledge and showcasing your skills. Starting my own blog, We Love Home, has been a game-changer for my career. It not only expanded my reach but also allowed me to do videos for clients' social media platforms and pursue projects that truly resonated with me. If you want to become an interior stylist, launching a blog can be an excellent way to build your brand and engage with a larger audience.

Step Five: Ask Yourself The Following

Becoming an interior stylist requires dedication and certain qualities. Ask yourself if you love hard work, if you're resourceful and creative, and if you're a great networker. If the answer is a resounding YES, then you're on the right track! Go ahead and start a blog, gain work experience, and start sharing your ideas with the world. With passion, perseverance, and the right skills, a career in interior styling can be yours.

So there you have it, the five essential steps to kickstarting your journey into interior styling. Remember, it's a combination of hard work, networking, and a genuine love for design that will pave the way to your dream career.
