If you've ever wondered how much the property down the road sold for, you're not alone. Savvy home-hunters and owners across the UK have been stepping up their property research in recent weeks, indicating that many are preparing to put their property on the market once lockdown measures are lifted. In fact, a recent poll conducted during our 'Is the property market in lockdown?' webinar revealed that 94% of respondents plan to proceed with their move as planned, either during or after lockdown.

If you're new to our sold prices search feature, here's everything you need to know to kickstart your research.

What are Sold Prices and Why are They Useful?

Sold prices represent the final amount a property was sold for upon completion and are obtained from the Land Registry and the Registers of Scotland. These figures take into account any price reductions or negotiations made between buyers and sellers. Sold prices serve as a valuable indicator of how your local market is performing and provide insight into the selling prices of similar properties in your area.

How Should I Use Sold Prices?

The Rightmove website offers a sold price search tool, making it an excellent starting point for your property research. Depending on your location, preferences, and level of specificity, you have a couple of options for conducting your search.

By Town, City, or Station

This search method is useful if you want to gain a general understanding of property prices in your area. It provides an overview of all recent sales, making it particularly valuable in areas with limited property availability or few similar properties in your immediate vicinity.

By Postcode

If you want to see recently sold properties on your street or in your immediate area, searching by postcode is an effective approach. You can narrow down your search to properties within your postcode or expand it slightly using incremental radius filters.

After selecting your preferred search method, we will present you with comprehensive information about the location, including the average property price for the area and how prices have fluctuated in the past year. If you wish to refine your search further, we offer additional filters:

  • This area only: Extend the radius of properties included in your search.
  • All years: Choose how far back you'd like us to search in years.
  • All property types: Refine the results to a specific property type you're interested in.
  • All tenures: Focus on either freehold or leasehold properties, depending on your preference.

You can utilize our sold prices search for any property sold on or after May 2000. The data is refreshed monthly through official feeds from the Land Registry and the Registers of Scotland databases.
