I don’t know about you, but nature has always had a profound effect on my state of mind. It has this incredible ability to both awe and soothe me. Whenever I'm feeling stressed, uninspired, or down, nature is where I turn. It never fails to provide me with exactly what I need.

Think about that feeling you get when you sit outside surrounded by the vibrant green of new growth, as soon as the warm weather hits. Or the anticipation of flowers blooming in early spring. And let's not forget the joy of seeing the soft greens and reds of new growth on trees when the leaves start to come back!

Nature offers an endless variety of color combinations that are both stunning and harmonious. As a color consultant, I love incorporating these natural palettes into my clients' homes. It allows me to bring the beauty of nature indoors and create a truly inspiring space.

Discovering Nature's Color Palettes

Nature's color palettes are arrangements of unaltered or doctored color patterns that color specialists use in their projects. Whether it's for exterior or interior paint colors, a nature-inspired palette will infuse your home with the splendor and beauty of the natural world.

These palettes aim to replicate the colors found in nature with the highest possible accuracy. I never manipulate or synthesize the colors. Instead, I bring together hues that are naturally found together in nature to create a truly authentic palette.

For instance, imagine a foggy morning in a Pacific Northwest forest. The richness of the soil, the dampness of the moss and undergrowth, the gray mist, and the vibrant green of the tree canopy. These colors combine to form a nature-inspired palette. Check out my recent blog on winter colors for a visual example of what a nature-inspired palette can look like.

Why Choose Nature's Color Palettes?

Many people may not realize it, but much of what surrounds us is inspired by nature. Biomimicry is a term used to describe how humans study nature to develop innovations, technologies, and medicines. Similarly, I believe that colors found in nature have uses and functions in our everyday lives.

This concept aligns perfectly with biophilic interior design, which aims to connect us with nature in our day-to-day spaces. By incorporating nature's color palettes, we can bring ourselves even closer to the natural world.

Personally, I firmly believe in the healing power of nature. The colors we surround ourselves with can have a profound effect on our emotions. Nature-inspired color palettes serve as tools for color experts to create strong, healing auras within our homes, both in the interior and exterior spaces.

Exploring Nature's Diverse Palettes

Nature offers an endless array of color palettes to suit every desired atmosphere in your home. While you won't find the sterilized and synthesized combinations of a lab, nature provides options that fit every mood.

Warm color palettes: If you're looking for an inviting and comforting ambiance in your study, bedroom, or kitchen, warm color palettes are the perfect choice. Imagine the hues of a sunrise or sunset—radiant oranges, reds, pinks, and yellows. You can also draw inspiration from a summer palette of beachy sand tones or warmer blues like teal or watery green.

Cool color palettes: On the opposite end of the spectrum, cool colors such as blues, grays, whites, and purples create an exotic and soothing atmosphere. Picture the gentle ocean waves splashing against the shore on a calm blue day. These hues work wonders to create a meditative and tranquil space.
